What does the Dental Hygiene section do?

Maintains an acceptable level of Oral hygiene for patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy and patients in Palliative Care

What services are offered by the Dental Hygiene Department?

• Pre-treatment oral assessment and referral for any dental treatment.
• Talk to patients about good oral hygiene practice during Chemo and Radiotherapy.
• Advise on the proper use of products and medicines for oral care and prevention of oral mucosa pathologies brought about by Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy.
• Treatment of mucositis and management of ulceration.
• Post chemo/radiotherapy clinical maintenance.
• Ensure that patients in Palliative ward are kept as comfortable as possible by aiding in oral hygiene case and treatment of oral mucosa.

Who can make use of this service?

The service is offered to all hospitalised patients, day ward patients at SAMOC or other hospital patients in MDH who are being treated for cancer.
