What is Occupational therapy (OT)?
Occupational Therapy addresses the quality of life of the individual, by focusing on the physical, sensory, cognitive and psychosocial needs. The ultimate goal is to help the person achieve functional independence while also being comfortable and productive in different environments.
What services are offered by the OT department?
Inpatient services: Inpatient occupational therapy service is provided in all wards at the Oncology Centre. Occupational Therapists at Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre (SAMOC) follow clients of all age groups throughout their cancer trajectory, with functional difficulties arising either from the diagnosis or the oncology treatment. Occupational therapy services are provided in all wards at SAMOC as well as to outpatients at the Clinical Support Services. Home, school or work visits may also be carried out to assess the environment and recommend any adaptations required.

Persons experiencing difficulties because of cancer and its treatment can benefit from client centred OT interventions. These difficulties may include but are not limited to:
How can you be referred?
An OT referral can be made by your medical doctor, nurse, social worker or an allied health professional. You may also contact the OT department should you have any concerns where you will be guided accordingly.
